Barney VHS tapes were very popular during the 1990s and early 2000s. Here are some of the most popular Barney VHS tapes.
April 2023 Update– I’m currently offering a Barney VHS tape lot on ebay here (by searching the title “Barney VHS Lot (8) In Concert/ Goes to School/ Families are Special/ Campfire”).
“Barney’s Big Adventure“- released in ’96, the video features Barney, BJ and Baby Bop as they adventure to find a magic egg. Takeaway lessons learned- perseverance, courage, and friendship. Barney and his friends begin by visiting a magical forest where they meet a friendly bird named Twinken who tells them about the magical egg that has been stolen by the evil witch. They set out to find the egg and bring it back to where it first originated in the forest. As they journey through the forest, they encounter a variety of obstacles and challenges, including a rickety bridge and a treacherous waterfall. Some of the most popular songs from the video include “The Land of Make-Believe,” “It’s a Great Day,” and “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”
“Barney’s Best Manners“- 1993 release. Throughout the video, Barney and his friends demonstrate various examples of good manners (at a picnic and Baby Bop is featured in a bubble tub splash scene at the school’s park), including saying “please” and “thank you,” waiting their turn, using polite language, and showing consideration (like closing and opening doors for others). Interactive activities here include a game of “Simon Says” and a dance party. These lessons are reinforced with catchy tunes such as “Please and Thank You,” “Being Together,” and “Manners Medley.”
“Barney’s Alphabet Zoo“- the video begins with Barney and his friends receiving an invitation from zookeeper Mr. Tenagain to visit the zoo. Once they arrive, Mr. Tenagain challenges them to match every alphabet letter to animals. Throughout the video, Barney and his friends explore the zoo and encounter a variety of animals, including alligators, bears, and zebras. As they search for animals for each letter of the alphabet, they sing songs and play games that help children learn the alphabet. The video features a variety of fun songs and dances that help children learn about the alphabet. Some of the most popular songs from the video include “The Alphabet Chant,” “The Animal Alphabet,” and “The Alphabet Song.”
“Barney Live! In New York City“- Barney and his friends receive an invitation to perform in a show at the Majestic Theater in NYC. The video then follows the gang as they prepare for the show, including rehearsing their songs and dances and getting their costumes ready. Some of the most popular songs performed (on the stage) include “Barney is a Dinosaur,” “The Wheels on the Bus,” and “If You’re Happy and You Know It.” The video features a mix of live-action and animated segments, as well as footage of children in the audience enjoying the show.
“Barney’s Great Adventure: The Movie“- released in ’98, Great Adventure finds Barney, Baby Bop, and BJ as they embark on a fun-filled adventure to find a magical egg. It begins with Barney and his friends spending the summer with their grandparents on a farm. While exploring the farm, they encounter a magical egg that has been stolen by the evil Mr. Fry. Barney and his friends set out to find the egg and return it to its rightful place. As they journey through the countryside, Barney and his friends encounter a variety of obstacles and challenges, including a thunderstorm and a deep canyon. Along the way, they learn important lessons about friendship, teamwork, and perseverance.
“Barney’s Talent Show“- released in ’96, you see Barney and his friends sing, dance, and perform a variety of acts throughout the video, including juggling, magic tricks, and even a dog show. The talent show takes place at the “Imagination City” theater, with Barney as the host and Baby Bop as the stage manager. The performances include a variety of music genres, such as rock, country, and classical. One of the highlights is a rendition of “The Ants Go Marching,” performed by BJ and a group of ants. There’s also a subplot about Baby Bop being nervous to perform, and Barney and her friends helping her to overcome her fears and gain confidence. Songs featured include “The More We Get Together,” “Ta-Ra-Ra Boom-Dee-Ay,” and “The Rainbow Song.”
“Barney’s Campfire Sing-Along“- originally released by The Lyons Group in ’90, Barney and his friends gather around a campfire in the great outdoors and sing songs like “Home on the Range,” “Kookaburra,” and “I Love the Mountains.” The songs are accompanied by animated lyrics on the screen. Certain scenes show them roasting marshmallows and telling spooky stories around the campfire.
“Barney’s Birthday“- a Lyons Group 1992 release. Barney’s friends work together to plan a surprise birthday party for him. The video features catchy songs like “Happy Birthday to Me,” “I Love You,” and “The Clapping Song.”
